sometimes being productive is also really boring

i am writing witch poems

"witch poems" was my basic daily writing prompt for October. I like to pick ideas or topics and use them to help keep me writing. I figured I could have fun and maybe do a lot with poems about witches and using a witch as an avatar for me sometimes and stuff. plus then i could write spell poems too which would be awesome.

i wrote a bunch of them, didn't make 31 but a good number. i could tell some of them were good but honestly my passion for poetry has been on and off lately (i've been doing and dealing with other things and maybe i had a bad breakup and i stopped writing poetry and now we're dating again and i am writing poetry how is that for reading into things too much? ;D) and i didn't want to push it. i didn't want to push myself to hating my own poems again which is what happened when i worked on my writing sample. i was just so tired of them. anyway.

finally i started getting back to these poems. FLAPPERHOUSE picked up 4 of them in one fell scoop a single day after i submitted. that was really encouraging.

i typed all the mostly-done ones. 27.

i'm going back to the prompt and trying to milk it/round out the story but

i am writing a book of poems

its title is going to be WITCH'S

some of the poems i really really think are brilliant

it has a story, it has an arc, it has a reason

now let's just see if I can make it go to 50 pages because that was always grotesque's problem - a few hairs too short. (and too rough.)

i decided if i could write a poetry ms. and start shopping it around for publication, (and maybe even one day got it published), fuck the mfa. fuck the mfa's stupid hoops you have to jump through to prove to snobby academic strangers that you are a good enough writer to pay them tens of thousands of dollars to quit your good job to go to this program that will not do anything for your income earning potential. maybe lower it. fuck people applying for mfa programs that care about what font their sample is in because they think it makes a difference. i have never thought like that. all i want you to care about reading my poem is my poem. my words. if you even notice what font it is in i have failed because you are not paying enough attention.

maybe i actually am a good poet. definitely though i know i can be. i'm confident at least in that at last.

yesterday i was telling matt about my cpt kirk poems and he turned to me and goes, "you know, have you ever thought about like, writing fiction?"

I know. i want to start doing it again. there's both so much i want to write about and yet i don't think i have anything to write about either. i want to write magic realism

i think i would love and have so much fun writing magic realism

best wishes
